Are there apps that can be installed right away on the NOOKCOLOR without having to root it? thank you.

Nook Color current reading button (Open book icon) doesn't seem to work after rooting

I posted a note in the forum, but then discovered this discussion, which seems more specific to my problem. Is the problem I encountered a generic difficulty after rooting, or is there a fix for it? I am willing to play guinea pig if someone wants me to twiddle something (besides my thumbs (;)) Archie Strong
