Hi, thanks for the app!! I think a proper replacement for the stock reader (with a search and sort function)was one of most sought after applications for our rooted nooks.

Just one Issue and a Request.

Issue: When you have an additional microSD card inserted in your nook the "scanning folders" dialog gets stuck and it frequently ends in a crash forcing to reboot the nook. If you remove the microSD the Scan works perfectly well. Could you please support, indexing of files in the microSD so we can search/sort not only the files in the internal memory but alson on the storage microSD?.

Request: Is it possible to rotate pdf's so we can see documents in landscape with vertical scroll? Some people are using e-books to read cartoons and comic books and the portrait view is almost unusable.

Thanks.

it would be great if the developers included some sort of changelog --Spec 09:38, 20 February 2010 (PST)

Hi, the library app is only an interface for calling the reader app. It reads the file details and invokes the B&N reader internally. The actual pdf displaying is still done by the B&N app. So, we won't be able to change anything in that.

I have been using an external sd card without any problems. But there seems to be some scanning problems that occur intermitently and we will add a fix for that in the next release. I also added a FAQ page with list of changes in the new build. btw, are you running the latest version or the version that came with softroot?

Thanks for this Hari. I'm just a bit spoiled by similar wiki here, and it would be great for nook wiki articles to get similar detail level. --Spec 14:32, 20 February 2010 (PST)

I do this as a hobby & didn't want to turn it into work :). If someone is volenteering to maintain a wiki, I would be happy to share the list of changes with them everytime I do a new build.

what's new in version 0.08? --Spec 07:26, 6 April 2010 (PDT)
NVM. I got my --Spec 08:51, 6 April 2010 (PDT)

Wait, so is this to browse or to read documents? If it is to read, what formats are supported? Thank you -- Julienrl

no pdb support?

I was just trying to figure out the mystery of what actual format PDB files the nook supports and I can't get them to show up on NookLibrary (even after a reboot). My test title shows up in the regular Library app and launches the reader app fine.

A bit off topic, but FYI - so far I can only get the stock library to recognize 'eReader' PDB files (aka Fictionwise / Motricity / Palm Digital Media / Peanut Press). It doesn't seem to like the open PalmDoc format (aka TEXt/REAd).

What I have no idea about is what the actual reader app can handle since I'm clueless about how to launch it with adb. I wouldn't be surprised if it could handle PalmDoc - maybe even early PRC/mobi. Mobi has some very silly licensing which causes issues for US companies. And the way PalmDoc deals with meta data could make things too 'messy' for official support.

For anyone that is curious about the actual format inside PDB file (PDB is a container) it is in text in the header. So on *nix just

 #strings file.pdb | head

On Windows you can just open it in notepad and look at the beginning. eReader will show PNRdPPrs. PalmDoc will show TEXtREAd. Mobi will show BOOKMOBI.

Has anyone else already stress-tested the built in reader?

Just discovered PDB files do show up if I remove all the non eReader PDB files. Weird. -3josh

I think only ereader pdb files are supported. Those are the only ones I have and they work properly. ---Hari 18:13, 22 August 2010 (PDT)

Adding support for html and txt?

It occurs to me that the built in apps should be able to display html and txt files. I assume B&N doesn't support them because there's no really elegant way to integrate books without meta data. A few ideas of how to get around this occur to me if you have lots of extra free time to add features for us :)

One possibility is to segregate them the way the regular Library does for sideloaded vs official B&N books. The scanning function could look for a hidden file to force the scanner to recognize txt and/or html files in the directory as books. Or require a particular structure (eg 'Author - Title/index.html').

Another possibility is to require the use of opf files and only scan for those. That would allow cailbre to just unzip html formated books into a directory and 'just work' (since cailbre creates the opf file with all the meta data). That would in theory allow full integration into NookLibrary for html - not sure about txt.

Not sure if the regular reader app can actually deal with html/txt - if the browser app was needed obviously a lot of functionality would be lost (bookmarks etc).

Thoughts? -3josh

0.1.3

"View by folders/tags option" feature looks nice if it is what i think it is. but how do i use it? nothing here, nothing on googlecode wiki... --Spec 07:10, 17 September 2010 (PDT)

What do you mean? It's simple - plug in your nook via USB cable, open either nookDrive or SD card and create a new folder, for example: 1. I have 20 comics and some books 2. I create a folder named comics in my library 3. I copy all of my comics to the new folder 4. I press view by folder and navigate to my comics folder when I want to read one of those 5. Now you can create many other folders, for example, if you have stephen king books, then you create a folder named stephen king or whatever making it easier to browse your book collection. --Atomix 07:21, 17 September 2010 (PDT)

that is simple - thank you. I thought those were some virtual folders. what about tags (in "View by folders/tags option")?

Also I found the documentation for the latest version thanks to your pointer with help button. Online version is here --Spec 07:36, 17 September 2010 (PDT)

tags are the same keywords you have in the show menu. Many were complaining the show menu navigation is not user friendly if thre are many keywords. This is to make it a bit easier. I also added a Help menu in the app. "View by" menu is a bit experimental code and not tested fully. That's why I disabled all other menu options when this is selected. I'll probably enable them in the future if it makes sense. --Hari 10:17, 17 September 2010 (PDT)

Hi, I've installed your new version, but can't get it to step back into upper folders when I have gone into one. The left back ket (as stated in the help) doesn't seem to work for me ... --Shadow007

I got the same issue --Spec 08:25, 20 September 2010 (PDT)

It's not the nook button. this is the back button in touchscreen --Hari 10:42, 20 September 2010 (PDT)

Anyone had problems with upgrading the app? You should be able to upgrade without uninstalling first. Send me the logs & current version if it doesn't work & I can debug & fix it in the next release --Hari 10:42, 20 September 2010 (PDT) BTW, if upgrade from nookMarket fails, repeat it again and it should work. No need to uninstall. ---Hari 11:46, 20 September 2010 (PDT)

nooksync not working

I downloaded and installed both library and nooksync but when I view covers some of my b and n books do not show up. I tried to refresh both my library and b and n I shut the nook all the way down and restarted Or when I try to archive them it says you need to install nooksync. The first time I sideloaded both app and installed from trook. Then I uninstalled them and used the cmd line and installed both again I got a success message both time but with the same results. I found a 0.1.1 and went back to that version. any help help or do you need some more info

I fixed the apk and uploaded it this afternoon. Try with 1.1 version of nookSync. --Hari 15:06, 20 September 2010 (PDT)

Got it works good now I have had to redownload a couple of books to get the covers but no more error messages Thanks

yes. cover image download for B&N Books are failing sometimes. I'm trying to debug that. Work around is to archive the book and unarchive again which will set it to download status. Or you can also manually replace the .jpg file in my B&N downloads folder with your own cover image. --Hari 17:15, 20 September 2010 (PDT)

can't upgrade to 0.1.14

I can not update to 0.1.14. Had the 1.4 softroot which updated to B&N 1.5 because I left the wifi on. Yesterday I found that the 0.1.14 version was released and it supported cover in the screensaver, which I would like a lot. I decided to root the 1.5 firmware, repeated the softroot procedure (downloaded signed 1.0, downloaded rooted nookdevs 2.5.0 and all the other things step by step, including the reboot after the first auto reboot). Once I try to upgrade the library through the market I get a "Application not installed" error, while if I try to upgrade through adb over USB I get a "INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS" error, even with the "-r" option after the install command. Can't uninstall either, just get a "Failure" message.. :( --Maxilogan 15:09, 7 January 2011 (PST)

Figured it out through a tip received on a forum: I deleted the .apk file (nookLibrary.apk) under the /system/data folder by using adb (shell, in this case). After that I just reinstalled the application (in its 0.1.14 version) using adb as well --Maxilogan 00:59, 9 January 2011 (PST)

Removing unused tags from the Show menu

Is there a way to do this? I have a bunch of ebooks from Project Gutenberg that come with various tags already defined. I removed them all in Calibre, but they still appear in the Show menu in NookLibrary. Can I get rid of them? - Kenji Yamada 20:52, 16 June 2011 (PDT)
