Rooting Benefits
What rooting does
- Full access to the system partition thru ADB over WiFi (and over USB with notes).
- Ability to install and run 3rd party applications on nook.
What rooting doesn't
- Rooting can't help you break DRM on the books (please do not pirate books!).
- Rooting doesn't allow use of the AT&T 3G for anything but access to B&N Store/content (you can use your own SIM card/plan to access anything over 3G as explained here).
Rooting Disadvantages
Softroot probably violates B&N Warranty and rooting nook thru physical access to the System SD card certainly does.
