Talk:NookLauncher

Just wanted to ask: Where did you store your custom icons to replace the default ones? I put them in a 'my custom icons' folder, but when i try to change it, i get to the CoverFlow, try to slide to my icons, but it crashes before i get there ( scrolling through all my cover art ). The other idea i had was to try removing all content from my nook, leaving just the icon directory & trying it that way ( just hoping the covers aren't stored somewhere off the USB accessible directories. --Thanks, veritas06

Initially I placed them in a folder underneath my screensavers, and that worked, but every time you connect the nook to your PC you have to reboot before the icons come back. I ended up using ADB to move them off the usb accessible directory just to eliminate the reboot need - I created a /data/data/com.nookdevs.launcher/icons directory and put them there. I don't think the icon browser will find them there though - I manually updated the database to point to them. I did notice that one or more of my screensavers that were installed would cause the icon picker to crash, so I removed them all from the nook before trying to place them. Unfortunately that picking method only works for icons that don't already have preprogrammed defaults. To truly change all the icons with the current version you must manually edit the nookLauncher settings database using sqlite3 and adb shell. --TonyMaro

Thanks. I'm fine with the current icons, i'm raelly just looking to be able to add the png's to the few apps that don't have them already. --veritas06

Sounds very interesting - however, I'm a newbie - can you provide instructions please -- dushyant

2 questions

Hari,

Could you please add 1 line of description to each release to let us know what was changed? Also if I have the latest softroot with mynook.ru launcher as default, if i choose to install NookLauncher from nookMarket will it install cleanly? Has that been tested? --Spec 08:10, 30 August 2010 (PDT)

Here is the update info- Yes. It works for me from nookMarket & the procedure to make it default is the same as before. --Hari 08:25, 30 August 2010 (PDT)

Thank you. --Spec 09:20, 30 August 2010 (PDT)
Hari. I got a problem to report: I installed this nookLauncher 0.1.0 over softroot 2.4.1 and for the most part it works well. 1 problem that I found was that if I go into B&N web browser, when I exit out of the browser it goes to mynook.ru Launcher not nookLauncher. Can you fix that? --Spec 18:34, 15 September 2010 (PDT)

Are you using the modified Home.apk? I don't see this behavior in the standard one. --Hari 20:19, 15 September 2010 (PDT)

I'm using Home.apk that came with vanilla softroot 2.4.1 (which comes with mynook.ru launcher), then i installed nookLauncher using nookMarket (not sure if nookLauncher install alters Home.apk).--Spec 20:42, 15 September 2010 (PDT)

nookLauncher install doesn't change Home.apk. You can figure it out by clicking B&N Home. If that doesn't have the standard icons, Home.apk is altered.--Hari 15:02, 16 September 2010 (PDT)

ok. I can reproduce the problem. We probably cannot fix it without changing either Home.apk or Browser.apk & modifying the smali code inside.

Can someone upload/create psd template or something for the default icons? I can't find any iconsets for the new apps (ie. gReader) that match the new B&N look. - thanks, th3lolz

deleted Launcher icon

I deleted the launcher icon which allows one to add or remove applications from the launcher. How do i get it back. I apologize if this is a dumb question, I am now only vaguely familiar with android and nook hacking.

Thanks,

problem with Home screen

Dear Hari,

thanks a lot for all your cool apps! Now, I'm afraid I got a completely dumb problem... I installed NookLauncher and didn't understand the procedure well ticking those items I did NOT want on my launcher. Now NookLauncher is neither showing the apps i need, nor (this being the problem) the settings of NookLauncher. Unfortunately I'm on airplane mode and can't access the device via adb. So my dumb question: can I get back to the home screen (and turn off airplane mode to get adb and use my nook again) or do I have to revert to factory settings and root it again etc.... Help would be very much appreciated! Thanks, Ashva
