== Noob unable to root === diver858 27 July 2011
This is my first attempt at an Android root. Nook Wifi 1004*, with 1.7.0.
Followed the instructions (had difficulties locating TreeWalk, as link is broken), using a Lenovo laptop with an Intel 5100 AGN Wifi adapter, with the 13.0.0.107 driver. Like others have described, the Nook simply does not download the "update" - attempted unregister / reregister, power cycling.
Any other suggestions?

Great Job!...Just one question... Can I do this on Windows XP, or Windows 7 is a plus requirement?
- Looks like it is Win 7 & Win Server 2008 R2 (32 or 64 bits) because Connectify only runs on those OSs --MikeRat 11:35, 27 October 2010 (PDT)
A couple of things to note before using this method:
- Be absolutely certain that your network card is on the list supported by Connectify Me of the software will not work properly. A list of supported cards is available here
- Make sure that your driver version corresponds with the version in the list in the supported cards list. I have an Intel 5100/5300, WiFi Link 1000 BGN, and was using driver version 13.1.1.1 but pinging my Nook had a 95% packet loss. Downgrading to the recommended driver version 13.0.0.107 changed this ... 0% packet loss, <10ms response times.
- If something does not work you have probably missed something. I wasted over 6 hours trying to work out what was wrong ... update failed as it should but then I could not connect using adb. It turned out that I had not noticed the step that says that I needed to enable then disable airplane mode after the update failed message, after this missing step it worked fine.

Followed all the steps and couldn't make it download the file. DNS seems to be working... going to sync.barnesandnoble.com on my computer browser takes me to Nomad's page, but unregistering/reregistering, turning on and off, and checking for new content don't give me the error message. Any ideas? --insomniacbird 14:14, 10 November 2010 (PDT)
Awesome job but........
First of all, Great Job!! I had some problems with rooting but was eventually able to make everything work. Unfortunately battery drain was epic (100% to dead in 6 hours on standby) and i reverted to factory. Also worth mentioning, i disabled wifi through adb to see if that would stop battery drain and it didn't help. I will root again if the battery problem gets solved.

I have no idea what's wrong....
OK, so I previously had a 1000... serial number nook, which broke and was replaced with a 10035.... nook under warranty. First, I did a hard reset to revert the nook back to 1.4.1 (it was originally on 1.5.0 when I received it). I followed these instructions, had the nook connected to the connectify hotspot, had dns working (the two urls were forwarding to the correct IP given in the guide). However, the nook would still download what appears to be the actual update (it would update completely and be 1.5.0 when it started up again) and not fail. What could possibly be wrong? BTW, i've tried it twice - the first time, the update completed very quickly, and the nook updated to 1.5.0, and the second time it downloaded very slowly, but still updated to 1.5.0. It is definitely connected to the connectify hotspot with tree walk dns and not 3G or another network.

Does thhe is Guide even still work? I've been trying for a while and it is definitely not working. Th3lolz
I'm doing something wrong...----
I follow all steps as are described on the guide, but when it's supossed that my nook has to fail the update... nothing happens, no update. I use connectify over a dell laptop, the in-wifi card is the connection I'm sharing and a second card (dlink dwa-140) is the hotspot. I connect my nook to the hotspot perfectly but I don't have a fail update. I've tried to un-register and re-register my account (nothing happens), restart my noo (also nothing happens), and finally I've tried to check for new content with the same result.
Please help me, I don't know what more I've to do
--Thundar 02:56, 7 February 2011 (PST) To anonymous upstairs: try use the same card for connection and hotspot. To gurus here: Somehow Treewalk doesn't look working for me. When trying to update, Nook is successfull and i'm upgraded to 1.5. Trying sync.barnesandnoble.com or edmfiletransfer on chrome brings me to the correct russian games page. No failments. Anyway something strange happen after update: sometimes, not always, when i power on or return to main menu it asks me if i want to use "/Home" (that brings to normal menu) or "/NookRoot" (that brings to another menu- seems like a rooting script). And nook cannot get connectify essid on the fly. After or before update Adb cannot connect (in the new version of sdk you have to run the sdk manager to get adb in directory platform-tools: it is no more under tools). Message is "unable to connect to 192.168.2.101:5555". Ping there is ok (port not tested). Update: actually it looks like this is the right think it should do. I just didn't know anythink about softroot before.
Update won't fail
I've run through the instructions many times and tried several times. I have the same problem as Th3lolz. It after I register, it installs 1.5 for me. Once I had the option to begin the rooting process, but I didn't want to attempt it while being in 1.5. The Update just won't fail for me. Any help please?
Help, trying to use non-router method to root Nook SN#1047.... and am unable to connect using adb connect. I keep getting a message unable to connect. Is there anyone in the NYC area willing to Root my Nook for me? I'll buy the beer. Ryan
